Does anyone know any good bread recipes? Have some relatives coming over from Europe....?

Here's an easy no knead bread recipe that'll knock their socks off. And it isn't the plain vanilla white bread you buy in the grocery store.

This one is from My Great Grandma's kitchen. And she was off the boat from Germany.





Strawberry Walnut Bread


3 Cups all purpose flour


2 cups granulated sugar


1 Tablespoon Cinnamon


1-1/2 tsp baking soda


1 tsp salt


4 large eggs


1-1/4 cup vegetable oil


1 ( 10 ounce ) pkg frozen sliced strawberries, thawed


1-1/4 cups chopped walnuts





1. Preheat oven to 350 f. Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans.


2.Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl and mix well.


3. Whisk eggs in a small bowl until blended. Add the eggs and oil to the flour mixture, and stir just until blended. Fold in un-drained strawberries and walnuts.


4. Spoon equal portions of the batter into the prepared loaf pans. Bake until a toothpick inserted into centers of loaves comes out clean, about 70 minutes.


5. Cool loaves in pans for 5-10 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.





Variation


For mini loaves, bake in four 5x3 inch loaf pans until loaves test done, about 45-50 minutes.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread


鈥?1 1/2 cups warm water


鈥?2 tablespoons milk


鈥?2 tablespoons shortening


鈥?1 teaspoon salt


鈥?4 cups bread flour


鈥?2 teaspoons cinnamon


鈥?3 tablespoons white sugar


鈥?2 teaspoons active dry yeast


鈥?1 cup raisins


鈥?2 tablespoons butter, softened


鈥?2 tablespoons brown sugar


鈥?1 teaspoon ground cinnamon


鈥?1 tablespoon butter, melted








Place water, milk, shortening, salt, flour, cinnamon, sugar and yeast in bowl and mix together, add raisins , knead it is until soft and springy.


Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out into a rectangle. Spread dough with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Roll dough, and divide into two parts. Place loaves in two lightly greased 9x5 inch bread pans. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.


Brush tops of risen loaves with melted butter and bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until crust is brown and loaves sound hollow when tapped.




















Sourdough Bread





4 to 5 cups flour, divided use


2 pkgs. yeast


2 Tbsp. wheat germ


1 Tbsp. sugar


2 tsp. salt


1/2 tsp. ginger


1 cup warm water (120-130 degrees)


1 cup sour cream, room temperature


2 Tbsp. vinegar








Conventional instructions:


In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, and next 4 ingredients; blend well. Add water, sour cream and vinegar to flour mixture Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Stir in additional 2 to 2 1/2 cups flour until dough pulls cleanly away from sides of bowl.





On floured surface, knead in remaining 1/2 to 1 cup flour until dough is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place dough in greased bowl; cover loosely with plastic wrap.





Divide dough in half, and form into 2 oblong loaves. Place on greased cookie sheet. With a sharp knife, make 5 (1/4-inch deep) diagonal slashes on top of each loaf. Cover, let rise in warm place until light and doubled in size, about 15 minutes.





Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake 25 minutes.




















Basil Tomato Bread


Preparation time: 20 min Baking time: 30 min


Yield: 16 servings, 1/2 cup butter





Butter Ingredients:


1/2 cup Butter, softened


2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese


1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (see below)





Bread Ingredients:


2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour


1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese


1 tablespoon sugar


2 teaspoons dried onions


1 teaspoon baking soda


1 teaspoon dried basil leaves


1/2 teaspoon salt


1 cup Sour Cream


1/3 cup milk


1/3 cup chopped sun-dried tomatoes in oil


1/4 cup Butter, melted





Topping Ingredients:


1 egg white, slightly beaten


2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese





Heat oven to 350掳F. Combine all butter ingredients in small bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Set aside.





Combine flour, 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, sugar, onion, baking soda, basil and salt in large bowl. Stir in sour cream, milk, tomatoes and 1/4 cup melted butter just until moistened. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead about 10 times or until smooth. Divide dough in half. Pat each half into 4 1/2-inch round loaf.





Place loaves 3 inches apart onto greased baking sheet. Brush tops with egg white. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese. Cut an X about 1/2-inch deep in top of each loaf. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheet; cool completely. Serve with prepared butter.





*Substitute 1/4 teaspoon dried basil leaves, 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves, 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves and 1/8 teaspoon dried sage.
I found this one on the net. Pretty darn good!





Carrot Pecan Bread





1 cup sugar


3/4 cup oil


1 1/2 cups flour


1 tsp. soda


1/4 tsp. slat


1 tsp. baking powder


1 tsp. cinnamon


2 eggs


1 cup grated carrots


1/2 cup chopped pecans





This is a Great Bread Recipe. Blend sugar and oil. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add eggs 1 at a time. Fold in carrots and pecans. Grease and flour a loaf pan or line with waxed paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Remove from pan immediately. Thats about it for this one. You will notice that right off the bat as it is cooking, a great bread aroma will go throughout the house, this tastes as good as it smells.
